Less than two weeks ago, I had shin splints that got worse after running on the beach. Then I went out for an easy 10k, the longest I’d done in two weeks, and somehow the pain just disappeared after the run. The body is fascinating.
I wrote that two days before my half marathon. Truth is, I didn’t really plan for the race. I’d gone on holiday, hurt my shin, and decided I just wanted to have a good time instead of chasing a PB. I told myself I’d aim for 2:00 to 2:10. Ended up with 2:13. I don’t hate it, but I can see what I could have done differently.
I was scared of bonking, so I held back at the start and tried to keep a steady pace. Managed that for a while until I just couldn’t anymore. Ended up walking for a few seconds at some point.
Interestingly, I never felt inspired, not at the start, not during the run. I think having headphones on made me miss out on the crowd’s energy, which probably would have given me a lift.
Anyway, I’ve already signed up for another half on the 28th. I hear it’s hilly but I don’t mind. This time I just want to beat my time.
