to unspectacular days

I don’t remember how I planned this weekend.

At some point, I was craving protein cake and asked a friend to make it. Then I spoke to a friend who is also a colleague and, while ranting about my product, realised he could actually help me think through a solution. So we planned to meet on Saturday to workshop it.

Another friend asked to play tennis. Since I already had things to do in East London, I decided it made sense to plan it around his side of town.

Then my brother’s wife reminded me she was visiting on Sunday. I asked her to come in the evening, and she said that was fine since she planned to sleep over, and my brother would come by the day after.

So how did my weekend go?

I woke up way too early. My body still thinks it is on Nairobi time. I forced myself to stay in bed a bit, then got up for a run. I had fallen asleep thinking about that run, and it turned out exactly how I imagined. I met all my pace targets. Afterwards, I used the outdoor gym at the park. I had gloves on, so I was not too bothered about germs.

I got home, did some light cleaning, and got ready to head out.

I love how I treat my weekend plans. Zero respect for time. It is why I do not think I can ever join a run club. I do not want to be forced to continuously do things at set times on the weekend.

I finally got to my friend’s place around 3pm. We talked a bit about his house and what he is building, then we workshopped my product. I pulled my developer in and we had a practical call with clear next steps. It was pretty productive.

By then, I was really hungry. When I got back from my run earlier, I had a little Afang soup by itself, and I guess it was not the carb I needed. My friend was fasting, so eating at his place was not an option.

At 6pm, we wrapped up and I headed to another friend’s for protein cake and chicken. He never has carbs at his, so I only had a pack of chicken. It tasted so good though.

Then my other friend got home, joined us for a bit since they are neighbours, and we went to his place afterwards.

He wanted to have dinner. I was super sleepy because my body was still on Nairobi time and it was nighttime there, but he decided to make fried rice, so I stayed up. We gisted, I ate to my heart’s content, then I slept.

I woke up super early on Sunday because my body still was not listening. I slept again for a bit, but sleep paralysis was lurking. This one was interesting. I could not breathe, lol.

Anyway, I eventually woke up, spoke to my partner for a bit, then went to the living room and spent time with my friend.

Then it was time to play tennis. We had a court booking, so we had to obey the timing. I liked how easy the game felt. We are proper amateurs and not trying to impress anyone. We just swing and have a good time.

Afterwards, my will prevailed over my tiredness and I ran an 8k.

When I got back, my friend had made noodles. I ate and just lazed around. He slept, then had to work. I did nothing. I scrolled, had conversations with Claude about my product, and iced my hurt toe.

We were going to see a friend who is not feeling too well, but my visitors were almost at mine so I barely had time.

I got on a train, headed home, and typed this.

That is it. A very easy, unremarkable weekend, but exactly the kind of wholesomeness I love.
